10:00 A.M.
The wing kit arrived yesterday. I was not able to go to Mike's house
to work on the ultralight, so I had to wait until today. I arrived
at Mike's and we looked at the wooden crate the wings were shipped
in. In the larger view you can see a small hole at the bottom
of the crate in the center. The trucking company knocked this off.
|
We opened the crate, and this is what we saw:
|
We needed to take inventory, but the
inventory sheets were not in the crate! Luckily, there was nothing
else missing.
|
Tom Karr at Excalibur Aircraft emailed me the
inventory sheets and after verifying that we had everything we needed we
began inspecting the pieces.
|
11:15 A.M.
We found that one of the ailerons had a small dent/
depression. In the picture, I have circled it in black, but it
is hard to see. This dent was a concern to me, but since it was
small and on the aileron, Mike did not seem too concerned. He said
he would have to see where it comes together in relation to the
hinges. If it was close to a hinge then he would not worry about it
at all, but if it was in the middle of two hinges, then there could
possibly be some stresses on it that could be a problem. We will
worry about that when we are ready to place the hinges on.

2:00 P.M.
After lunch, we started working on a wing. I started rounding the
edges of the gussets to prevent them from tearing holes in the
fabric. Here are a couple of examples of the braces attached to some
compression tubes and spars.

3:45 P.M.
Now it is time to add the braces and aluminum strip to the bottom of the
wing.
|
4:45 P.M.
Now Mike is measuring the holes in preparation for drilling and riveting.
